Großarl

Großarl Valley

In the idyllic „Valley of Alpine Pastures“, around 40 farmed alpine huts with homemade delicacies and around 400 kilometres of well-signposted hiking trails are waiting to be discovered. Mountain bikers can expect a network of trails totalling 160 km and 14,000 metres in altitude in the Grossarl Valley. The beautiful long-distance hiking trail "Salzburger Almenweg" leads through Großarl and how about a hike from alpine pasture to alpine pasture - without any luggage?

“European Village” Grossarl (elev. 920 m) is the main town in the ca. 30 km-long Grossarltal valley, and boasts around 3800 permanent residents. The town center is located approximately in the center of the valley, making it an ideal starting point for many beautiful hikes to the numerous surrounding huts, which has earned the valley its nickname as “The Valley of Mountain Huts”.

The highest point is the Frauenkogel at 2,424 meters, which dominates the southern skyline. You will be left wishing for nothing when it comes to the other recreational opportunities, too, including a new recreation center that features:

  • adventure pool
  • mini-golf course
  • beach-volleyball court
  • tennis courts
  • soccer pitch
  • and a giant adventure playground, “Rucki Zucki’s Gaudi-Alm”

Climbing, fishing, Nordic walking, wellness and much more are also to be found on their extensive activity program. Offering inexpensive fares, the hiking taxis carry guests out to the most popular trail heads. Hiking and touring tips, descriptions of all 40 huts in the valley, as well as an interactive hiking map can be found under “Grossarltal” as well by visiting touren.grossarltal.info direct.
