It was cold in winter 1818 when the church-goers went to mass in the small St. Nicola church. The magic of Christmas was omnipresent. Only a couple of hours before the mass, the priest Joseph Mohr, asked the organist Franz Gruber to write a melody for 2 solo voices, a choir and a guitar accompanyment. When it was played, everyone spoke of a Christmas miracle and that's how the most famous Christmas Carol was born.

Mattsee, your holiday resort directly on the lake

The fantastic location between the picturesque Lake Zell and the Kitzsteinhorn makes the small holiday resort of Kaprun the perfect holiday destination. It boasts biking and hiking trails at up to 3,000 metres above sea level and a glacier, which offers TOP snow quality and provides skiing fun between autumn and early summer.

It is definitely a little eerie. Our torches throw shadows through the dark forest while our fingers and noses freeze a little. But as long as Hans Greischberger is with us, this adventure in the Devil's Grave is a scarily beautiful experience.
