As well as in St Gilgen: In the Mozart village sport, culture and nature are so wonderfully close together.
The picturesque village of St. Gilgen is located only 25 kilometres from the old town of Salzburg. This idyllic town is very closely connected to the prodigy Mozart and his family. Ultimately, his grandfather was born here and his sister “Nannerl” found her home here in St. Gilgen. Selected events still recall today the Mozart family.
Water sports at its finest
The deep blue waters of Lake Wolfgang invite for swimming, marvelling and enjoyment. Many sports facilities in and around the lake make the summers in St. Gilgen so exceptional.
Head up high to the surrounding mountain peaks. It’s especially easy with the Zwölferhorn cable-car.
On their return journey from Vienna in September 1773, Leopold Mozart’s plan that he would show his son St. Wolfgang, where his name came from, where he had never been and where his mother was born, remained unrealised.

Tip for winter: in the run-up to Christmas, St. Gilgen is surrounded by a special magic. The slopes of the Zwölferhorn, with its natural snow slopes, invites for original ski enjoyment on one of the most beautiful peaks in the Salzkammergut. In the valley, the warm Christmas markets invite you in – how about a cup of warm punch, directly on the lake shore?
Lake Wolfgang also offers visitors recreational facilities around ice skating, sledding, hiking in the winter, cross-country skiing, curling, spa services and much more!
