Insider tips in Henndorf:

Enjoyment by the water
The Wallersee, which is also known as the warmest lake in the country, offers a variety of activities, such as windsurfing, sailing & boating, stand up paddling or kayaking.

Hiking
Enjoy the delightful panoramic views over the lakes to the Alps, whilst walking along the lakeside or over the Buchberg, Haunsberg and Tannberg hills.

  • Haunsberg panorma path:
The way of the “beautiful looks” with adventure stations for children. Take a walk along the Haunsberg hill with its beautiful, panoramic  views. The route starts at the Gasthof Kaiserbuche on top of the Hausberg,  (car park). It is an easily accessible and gentle circular path (5 km), which takes about 1,5 hours. En route you can  see all the lakes, into the Salzkammergut  lakes and mountains district, to the Osterhorn group of the Alps, the city of Salzburg, the northern limestone Alps with the Untersberg, Watzmann and Hohenstauffen, the Salzachtal and also the bavarian prealpine area between Laufen and Tittmoning.
  • On the “Ice Age Circular Walk” you can experience how the landscape was created. A total of 21 stations provide information about the ice age, the Salzach glacier, the history of vegetation, the cultural geology, the settlement of the region, etc.

  • On the approximately 11 km long “Kirchen- & Kapellenweg”, numerous display boards provide information about the history of the respective square.

  • A hike to the “Henndorf local mountains” (Steinwandl / Große Plaike / Heimkehrerkreuz) offers a great panoramic view of the Salzburg Alpine foothills.

  • The “Uferwanderweg” leads from the town center to Lake Wallersee to the campsite and back. But you can also connect to the “Wallerseerundweg”.

Golf & Country Club Gut Altentann
Friends of golf can play at the famous Golf & Country Club Design by Jack Nicklaus at Gut Altentann. Apparently infinitely peaceful, wavy fairways nestle along ponds in which the surrounding hills are reflected. Jack Nicklaus has designed a varied and sporty golf course here – for the amateur player as well as for the golf elite. The golf club is also a member of Golf Alpin.

Gut Aiderbichl
A very popular tourist destination is Gut Aiderbichl. This wildlife haven is home to rescued animals, which can be visited in the open farm and stroked.

Literaturhaus Henndorf
The Henndorf literary house is the birthplace of the poet Johannes Freumbichler – grandfather of Thomas Bernhard. A tour of the house provides information about the writers who once lived in Henndorf: Johannes Freumbichler, Thomas Bernhard, Carl Zuckmayer, Ödön von Horvath, Franz Stelzhamer and Sylvester Wagner. At the literature breakfasts that take place regularly, people read, talk and discuss together. All those interested in literature are invited – and of course all those who want to become one!

St. Brigida Church
A few kilometers northeast of Henndorf, just outside the hamlet of Ölling, is the Filialkirche zu hl. Brigida. In the 8th or 9th century, an older predecessor building must have stood on the site where the branch church is now. A spring revered as a miraculous “eyewash” flows next to the church. This has – as the votive pictures in the church prove – cured eye diseases and other diseases.

Tandem flying
Soar through the air and enjoy the unique view over the Salzburg Lake District. The company “Fly with Toni” offers paragliding tandem flights with the experienced flight instructor.

Logenplätze
Three cradles are waiting to be discovered in Henndorf am Wallersee.
