That happens to be a very appropriate turn of phrase, because the holiday regions in SalzburgerLand have a wealth of offers in store for nature lovers and outdoor fans that really give you butterflies in the stomach. Even if the situation at present doesn't allow for many things, we are already looking forward to welcoming you again soon to SalzburgerLand. Because it's moments like these that we live for!

#1 FLOAT IN A HOT-AIR BALLOON EXPERIENCE LIMITLESS FREEDOM

Have you ever imagined what it’s like to float high up over the clouds, and what the world looks like from up there? Anyone who would like to find out what it’s like for real should get into a hot-air balloon, slowly lift off and watch as the streets and houses get smaller and smaller beneath their feet. One example of where you can drift through vast expanses of air is in The Salzburg Lake District. During the summer, when balloon rides can be taken only during the early hours of the morning or evening, you can either watch the sunrise as you ascend or glide off into the sunset. Simply heavenly!

#2 REPLENISH YOURSELF IN THE MORNING – TRUE LOVE STARTS WITH A GOOD BREAKFAST

It is well known that the way to the heart is through the stomach. And what kind of start to the day would it be to go hungry? That’s why nothing beats a decent breakfast. One of the places where you will find this is at Kathis Blumencafé in Faistenau. There, at the Oberhinteregger Hof farm, the owner Kathi doesn’t just bake delicious cakes and tarts; she also sources many of the ingredients, such as blooms and herbs, from the farm’s own herb garden. Her animal co-workers also supply milk, eggs and honey – all of which she conjures into a substantial breakfast containing sweet and savoury dishes. It’s all delicious, of course! The highlight is an enchanting breakfast spot in the middle of the herb garden, which provides a veritable feast for all the senses. What a start to the day!

#3 TAKE A ROMANTIC STROLL THROUGH THE CITY – SALZBURG FOR LOVEBIRDS

Salzburg Old Town boasts many romantic corners and spots that are virtually predestined for beautiful moments together. A romantic stroll through the city starts off at the Makartsteg bridge. There you can attach a padlock to the bridge railing to symbolically seal your love. Then, it’s on to the Mirabell Gardens, past beautiful roses, geraniums and zinnias, before making a short stop off at the Markatplatz. This is where the magnolia trees bloom from March. Anyone who has ever seen these pink flowers looks for them anew each year to delight in them again. It finishes off with a detour to the Kapuzinerberg hill, to raise a toast to love in the picturesque Franziskischlössl restaurant in front of a dreamlike panorama. With a little luck you might even spot a chamois up there – and in the middle of the city at that! Where else could you experience such a thing?

A little further out of the city, you can also take a walk through Hellbrunn Park. Hellbrunn Palace exudes a very particular charm – after all, it was very much in vogue as a pleasure palace when it was constructed in 1651. Pleasure palaces were places in which to celebrate, have fun and relax. Back then the fun was reserved for prince-archbishops only; fortunately, anybody who visits the palace grounds can join in today.

#4 RELAX DURING A WELLNESS WEEKEND – AND IMMERSE YOURSELVES TOGETHER

A wellness weekend: it’s a classic! And yet time and again it offers a welcome change from the stresses of everyday life, and provides body and soul with much needed rest and recuperation. An especially cosy ambience awaits during a wellness experience in the Forsthofalm in Leogang. In the in-house SPAnorama you can immerse yourself together in the Almwellness, be pampered with beguiling oils and herbal peels, or indulge all your senses during an invigorating partner massage. And all this in the middle of a 360-degree mountainous panorama. Discover more about SalzburgerLand’s spas.

#5 PICNIC IN THE SALZBURG LAKE DISTRICT– ROMANCE ON TWO WHEELS

Luxuriate in a prime viewing spot on the waterfront, spread out the picnic blanket, delight in a basket full to the brim with regional delicacies and enjoy being together surrounded by nature. Moments such as these are no exception in the Salzburg Lake District, as here there are many fantastic places to stop and rest, not just one. Fans of panoramic vistas come to picnic in Gerbertsham and enjoy the views over Mattsee Lake. In Mattsee itself the Weyerbucht invites you to while away the hours and you are particularly close to the Obertrumer See Lake at the Seeham bathing beach. In the Bioladen Seeham organic shop, you can pick up a pre-packed picnic basket. And if you prefer to explore the region on two wheels, you can hire an e-bike from the Seeham Tourist Office.

#6 EMBARK ON A BOAT RIDE ON JÄGERSEE LAKE – IT DOESN’T GET ANY MORE IDYLLIC THAN THAT

Fishermen sitting by the water waiting for their next catch, crystal-clear water that reflects the surrounding trees, and a landscape that could hardly be any more picturesque. Jägersee Lake in Kleinarl is a real gem of nature, and people and animals alike feel at home there. Hikers love walking around it, and swans and ducks make themselves comfortable on its surface. For a particularly romantic experience, hire a small rowing boat during the summer months at the Gasthof Jägersee guesthouse and cruise comfortably across the lake. If you’re feeling energetic and want to see more of the region, you can also hike up to Tappenkarsee Lake.

#7 INDULGE IN FINE DINING WITH YOUR LOVED ONE – A MUST ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS

Whilst it may have somehow turned into a cliche, a date night in a fancy restaurant simply belongs to special occasions such as anniversaries and Valentine’s Day. The suit jacket is primped, the elegant dress smoothed out, lipstick reapplied, and then you’re both good to go. A suitable establishment for evenings like these is the Mesnerhaus in Mauterndorf. In this three-torque restaurant, a choice of four, six, eight or ten courses lead to culinary heaven.  In the kitchen, you will find predominantly regional and seasonal cuisine. The beef originates from the Nockalm area and the fish from local waters. Is your mouth watering yet? Although the establishment has had to close for Valentine’s Day this year, you can still check out their website for tantalising pictures and menus in the meantime.

#8 WATCH THE SUNSET – A PERFECT WAY TO END THE DAY

Watching the sunset together arm in arm is the very epitome of romance. The moment is even more beautiful when enhanced by the surrounds. The combination of lake and mountain can be found all around in SalzburgerLand and correspondingly unique sunsets await couples in love here. If you’re in a particular hurry, you can choose to watch the sunset from the Ellmaustein mountain in Fuschl. It will take about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace to reach the cross on the summit of the mountain. Once at the top, Lake Fuschl lies at your feet. If you’re keen to watch another sunset, the neighbouring Schober mountain is also a fantastic place to soak in the experience.

#9 GAZE AT THE STARS TOGETHER EXCHANGE SWEET NOTHINGS UNDER THE COVER OF DARKNESS

Watching the stars together must be one of the most romantic things there could be. However, for star gazing, you need to be in a place with little to no artificial light and good weather. One of these places where magical starry nights can be experienced is at the Ammererhof in the Rauris Valley. It’s possible for guests there to spend the entire night in a special “star room” with skylights with their beloved searching for constellations, dreaming and planning a future together. After all, it is said that you are granted a wish when you see a shooting star.
