Many mountaineers live by the motto “I’ve got to make it to the top!” as the goal for each hike. Usually, the reward for having fought their way up to the summits in SalzburgerLand – step by step – is the thrilling view across the mountains into the valley. But the next worthwhile goal after the summit victory awaits already: the mountain hut. It should be rustic, cosy and traditional. And the empty stomach of course longs for the finest local delicacies and a cool glass of Elderberry juice with spring water!
“Hello” at the Alpine Summer hut
The endorphins pump through the body on the way down from the summit and with each step, the anticipation increases at the thought of a nice rest and refreshments in the mountain hut. The cowbells provide the soundtrack on the way to the mountain hut and even before the wooden fence of the hut is reached, you know that you’re in the right place! The orange signpost of the “Award winning Alpine Summer Huts” signals from afar that you’re approaching a hut with authentic quality. As you open the gate, you’re greeted by the aroma of genuine, regional mountain hut delicacies and the hosts welcome you with a warm ‘hello’. Steaming bowls of soup with Pinzgauer Kaspressknödel dumplings, Bauernkrapfen doughnuts with sauerkraut, elderberry compote and Kaiserschmarrn entice any hungry guest to get settled comfortably on the sunny patio.
Themed Alpine Summer huts
Some Alpine Summer mountain huts are devoted to a specific topic. Pram-friendly huts are particularly popular amongst families with small children, because the paths to the hut can easily be accessed with prams. Child-friendly huts focus on the kids and put a smile on their little faces with a petting zoo, wooden children’s playground equipment, adventure trails and various playgrounds. Mountain bike-friendly huts offer special mountain bike trails and the many bikes leaning at the fence mark the spot from the distance! Arts & culture huts are all about music, fine arts, literature and the theatre.
