Food festivals: Nina tasted her way through Gastein

Where to satisfy hunger in the Gastein Valley

Travelling makes you hungry. After a long day in the fresh air, a decent meal is more important than a lottery prize. That’s why Nina Radman also made sure she tried enough of the local and exotic dishes on offer in the Gastein Valley.

Food is a big part of any holiday, because tasty food is good for both body and mind. Especially on trips, it’s nice to sit back, toast the day with a glass of something and satisfy one’s hunger with some wonderful food. Nina aka Berries & Passion reveals her culinary highlights from the Gastein Valley.

But first, coffee

The best activity in Gastein? Walking and hiking. Whether walking through the nostalgic streets of Bad Gastein or hiking on the peaks of the surrounding mountains – on foot, the Gastein Valley is especially fun. And In-between? There is always time for a coffee break. Where is the best place for that?

The Blonde Beans

The Blonde Beans has been in Bad Gastein since 2015. In that November, two Scandinavians opened the café. What do they have there? Home-made delights and of course, wonderful coffee. For a midday snack, there’s a lunch, which changes weekly.

Kraftwerk Café

What fits better to the Gastein Valley than the waterfall, which flows through Bad Gastein? And here since last year, there is a cafe with a terrace including views of the thundering waterfall.

When the real hunger comes: Ginger n’ Gin

Bad Gastein is a phenomenon – once a hotspot in the Imperial Empire, now more and more young locals and motivated Gastein fans mix together in the design of the culinary scene. In Ginger n’ Gin there is a plentiful selection of Gins coupled with Asian Fusion Food. The waiters wear cylinders, like to tell of their lives in the Gastein Valley and provide competent information when it comes to the choice of drink. A ‘Must Visit’.

Address: Kaiser Franz Josef-Straße 14, 5640 Bad Gastein

Schmaranzgut

Whoever wants a really rustic and cosy tavern needs search no longer. In the Schmaranzgut there are only a few tables, and as the cooking is done on the open fire place you can easily get chatting to the other guests thanks to the seating layout. Home-cooked meals are served along with the self-brewed beer which tastes especially good after a long hike.
