Alpine wellness

Wellness hotels and hiking tips in health-promoting alpine surroundings

Alpine wellness – two beautiful words, which together form a new symbiotic relationship. The images which originate in the mind upon closer consideration are images of well-being. For instance, you think of high snow-covered mountains, fragrant alpine meadows, leisurely hikes, relaxing massages or floating in warm water. And what do you get out of this as a guest in SalzburgerLand? At any rate a great deal! Regardless of whether you are at a lake or in the mountains, wellness, rest and relaxation rank foremost. Exercise in fresh air, enjoy high-quality nutrition and simply take a break from everyday life.

Healthy Altitude

Even a stay in the mountains has a positive effect on health. This has been confirmed by clinical studies such as the Austrian Moderate Altitude Study (AMAS) or the HCO (Hiking & Coaching) study by the Paracelsus Private Medical University. It is easily explained why that is so: the body has to exert a greater effort due to the lower atmospheric pressure and the lower percentage of oxygen in the air. As a result, the metabolism is activated and fat burning is optimised. But this already functions at an altitude of about 700 metres. For holidaymakers this means: simply sit in a deck chair in the sun alongside a lake or on a wooden bench in front of a hut and the recuperative effect already starts. The positive effect increases with moderate exercise.

Top Tips from the Regions

Tourism professionals in SalzburgerLand have taken advantage of this knowledge and developed new ideas to make a holiday even more varied, attractive and ultimately more relaxing.

For example, this would be the numerous offers and events during the Alpine Summer in SalzburgerLand. There are plenty of mountain pastures and huts in SalzburgerLand and quite a few in the Grossarltal valley, which even proudly calls itself the “Valley of Mountain Huts”. So put on your hiking boots and set off on a leisurely alpine pasture hike. The culinary delicacies at one of the 167 Alpine Summer Huts promise particular pleasure.

Activating, balancing or regenerating – the eight vitality paths in the Saalfelden-Leogang holiday region can be walked according to the individual ability and desires of any guest. So everyone finds their ideal hiking route geared to their health and physical fitness in order to relax or to vitalise. Anyone who is out and about with open senses will also possibly find their personal power place.

Hobby athletes also benefit from healthy mountain air. Running and walking enthusiasts get their money’s worth on the numerous routes and varying terrain at the Run & Walk Park in Zell am See-Kaprun. Whether it is through the town or on alpine trails, trail running or Nordic Walking, everyone works up a sweat here.

But alpine wellness not only refers to the mentioned health enhancing effect of mountain air. Even the view of the impressive mountain world of the Alps allows visitors to forget everyday worries. For instance, a prime example of alpine wellness in the truest sense of the word is the skyline pool at Hotel Tauern Spa Kaprun. The completely glassed pool on the top floor of the spa hotel enables a clear view of the surrounding mountains, in the middle of which is the distinctive peak of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier.

First Alpine Wellness Village at Fuschl am See

Fuschl am See is the first village in Austria to be entirely committed to the philosophy of alpine wellness. According to this philosophy, the ideal holiday envisages taking time to enjoy with all the senses, to exercise in natural surroundings, to eat a healthy diet and to deliberately seek personal relaxation and harmony. This is actually everything one expects from a holiday in SalzburgerLand. Success is inevitable when an entire village is behind these ideals.

Fuschl am See is ideally suited to meet all requirements. In the sunshine, the emerald green lake shines in its virtually surreal colour shades. The regional delicacies on the menus, such as local Fuschlsee whitefish, delicious elderflower cakes (Hollerküchlein) in the spring and roast venison in the autumn, are also conducive to well-being. A diverse range of leisure and recreational activities, lived traditions and not least certified alpine wellness hotels top off the offer.
Glide with a flat-bottomed boat over the crystal-clear lake to idyllic Fuschl Castle and back, visit the “site of bliss” (Glücksplatz) near the 150-year-old mill Rumingmühle or visit the Kneipp herbal garden from Hermi Wesenauer.
