Cycling looks back on a long tradition in this area. One of the giants of this craft has won many a race here, and also regularly comes back to put in a few laps in this region. The talk is of course of Eddy Merckx from Belgium, the most successful racing biker of all time. Nicknamed ‘the cannibal’, he has conquered the sporting world in a way that no others have managed. He’s won the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia five times, has won the Vuelta a Espana and is one of only three riders to have won all five ‘monuments of cycling’: Milan–San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Paris–Roubaix, Liège–Bastogne–Liège, and the Giro di Lombardia. This sporting great has lent his name to the legendary ‘Eddy Merckx Classic’ bike race which takes place in SalzburgerLand every September in Fuschl am See.
Alongside all the many competitions taking place in SalzburgerLand, there’s also the opportunity to just have a lot of fun on your saddle. There are three bike regions in particular which make SalzburgerLand what it is today: an oasis for road bikers. Jump on your saddle and come with us on an exhilarating tour round three of the most spectacular road bike regions of SalzburgerLand.
