Absolute tranquility, clear mountain air and the knowledge that you have no obligations, no appointments, just time to be. And you do not even ask yourself if you should do a summit tour or pleasure tour, as you can easily do both here in the Großarl Valley.
Nestled between the Hohe and Niedere Tauern, the Großarltal —known as the “Valley of Mountain Pastures” with its idyllic villages of Hüttschlag and Großarl—offers 70 kilometres of varied slopes in the heart of Ski Amadé. Once the snow arrives, winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy almost limitless fun, from wide family-friendly runs and challenging freeride terrain to a fun park perfect for young skiers.
Grossarltal, also linked by lift to the slopes of Dorfgastein, offers skiing and nature enjoyment for the whole family. For the winter of 2023/24, huge investments have been made in a new 10-seater gondola lift, additional pistes, a unique summit restaurant, and extensive ecological measures.
The new, state-of-the-art 10-seater “Kieserl” gondola lift runs from the valley via a middle station, ascending over 1,000 vertical meters directly to the Kieserl summit plateau (1,954 m) in just 15 minutes. It serves as your gateway to the wonderfully snowy slopes of the Roslehenalm ski area on the Grossarltal side. There is also a new direct ski link from Kieserl to Dorfgastein, bringing the two communities of Grossarl and Dorfgastein even closer together. It is now easier than ever to switch back and forth – and essentially go “valley hopping”.
The crowning glory of this particular lift is the summit restaurant WOLKE7, located on the upper floor of the mountain station with a large sun terrace and unique 360° panoramic views.

A special treat awaits all early birds with the “Skikeriki“, where you can carve your lines in the fresh snow on the slopes at sunrise and afterwards enjoy the ‘Pamper Breakfast’ with regional delicacies on the mountain.
Ski tots find their adventure in the new Fischbacher adventure place. Accompanied by the mascot, “Rucki-Zucki”, they can toboggan, ski, slide on the bobsleigh and race around fun obstacles. For guests of the Grossarl Valley, use of the adventure meadow is free of charge.
Even away from the slopes, you can recharge your batteries while walking, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, touring and snowshoe hiking. There is also an extensive activity programme with up to eight guided ski tours, snowshoe hikes and sports climbing every week. All dates at: www.berg-gesund.at. The pre-Christmas period is idyllic as the Salzburg Mountain Advent opens its huts and with a special program creates a truly characterful anticipation for Christmas.
Stretching 30 kilometres through the Salzburg region, Grossarltal is affectionately known as the “Valley of Alpine Pastures” thanks to its many traditional, working mountain huts. Nowhere else in Austria will you find so many alpine huts where local farmers treat hikers and mountain bikers to delicious homemade specialities.
40 traditional alpine huts invite visitors to enjoy leisurely hikes and delicious regional specialities. A slice of fresh bread with butter and tasty cheese from the Grossarltal Culinary Region is a real treat, especially after a hike through flowering alpine meadows, to crystal-clear mountain lakes or up to scenic summits. For mountain bikers, Grossarltal offers a network of trails covering a total of 160 kilometres and 14,000 metres of elevation gain. Those looking for a little extra assistance can enjoy a ride with a tailwind by renting a latest-generation electric mountain bike from one of Grossarltal’s bike specialists.

Grossarl boasts a spacious leisure centre featuring an outdoor adventure pool, water slide, diving tower and welcoming restaurant. Three tennis courts, beach volleyball, mini golf and “Rucki Zucki’s Gaudi-Alm” – Salzburg’s largest alpine adventure playground – provide even more fun and entertainment. Located right in the centre of Grossarl, the playground features a mountain lake, alpine stream, crystal mine and plenty of exciting attractions.
Grossarl is also the starting point for the Grossarltal-Dorfgastein ski area, which welcomes visitors in summer too. A comfortable gondola ride takes you up to the Grossarl Adventure Mountain. At the top, breathtaking panoramic views await, along with fun and games along the hiking trails leading over Kreuzkogel to the Spiegelsee mountain lake. Thrill-seekers can look forward to exciting descents on two single trails, action-packed rides on mountain carts, adventures in the E-Trial Park and a sensory experience along the “Grossarl Sensory Trail” near the Gehwolfalm alpine hut. In the mountaineering village of Hüttschlag, adrenaline and adventure await on the challenging via ferrata climbing routes along the impressive Hüttschlager Wand rock face.
