These are truly special days for chefs when the date for the Guide Michelin Austria announcement approaches and the stars are awarded. After last year’s grand star gala at Hangar-7 in Salzburg celebrated the return of nationwide awards across Austria, anticipation was high again in 2026. Who would retain their stars? Would there be any new additions? And what’s happening in Austria’s gourmet scene—especially in SalzburgerLand?

The Michelin Guide represents the highest quality and recognizes the culinary excellence that SalzburgerLand embodies – making it even more visible,” emphasizes Leo Bauernberger, Managing Director of SalzburgerLand Tourismus GmbH. “Culinary enthusiasts around the world follow the recommendations of the international ‘gourmet bible’; for 80 percent of them, regional specialties and a high-quality culinary experience are essential for their travel plans. Alpine cuisine in SalzburgerLand stands for regionality, seasonality, and the strengthening of local economic cycles. I am therefore particularly pleased that restaurants from every region – from the city of Salzburg to Tennengau, Pongau, Pinzgau, and Lungau – have been awarded Michelin stars.
A total of 18 stars shine over SalzburgerLand in 2026. Five restaurants were awarded two stars: Döllerer Gourmet Restaurant, Kräuterreich by Vitus Winkler, Restaurant Obauer, Restaurant Ikarus at Hangar-7, and Senns.Restaurant. Eight restaurants hold one star, while four were awarded a Green Star. In addition, there are three Bib Gourmands. Celebrations were especially lively for top chef Maximilian Reuter, as RAR Fine Dining at the Hochkönigin in Maria Alm received its first Michelin star in 2026.

The Guide Michelin and its rating system
The Guide Michelin is the world’s most renowned restaurant guide, awarding its famous “stars” since 1900. A Michelin star is a distinction for outstanding cuisine and is globally recognized as a benchmark of culinary excellence.
The rating is based on five key criteria: the quality of the ingredients, the chefs’ technical skill, the originality of the dishes, and the consistency of exceptional standards. Whether a venue is a simple bistro or a luxurious restaurant is irrelevant for receiving Michelin stars—awards are given solely for what’s on the plate. Factors such as ambiance, wine list, service, views, or pricing are not considered in the star rating.
SalzburgerLand has once again proven its exceptional leadership in world-class cuisine! Here, you can treat your taste buds to the finest flavors in one of the most stunning regions. We live for that!
