Beer has been brewed in Salzburg for over 500 years. Nowadays, our ten breweries offer a wide variety of beers both traditional and creative - all with one special quality characteristic, their use of Salzburg spring water.
These ten breweries include the Stieglbrauerei, Austria's largest private brewery, Brauhaus Gusswerk, the world's only brewery to brew beer according to strict organic guidelines, as well as breweries distinguished by their creativity and their newly developed procedures, such as Trumer Privatbrauerei, Salzburg's "Die Weisse" wheat-beer brewery, and the Kaltenhausen brewery for specialty beers. Other must-visit addresses for beer lovers include the Augustiner Bräustübl with its unique Schmankerlgang, the Stieglkeller on the way up to Hohensalzburg Fortress, as well as the Friesacher Einkehr in Anif.
Visitors can learn all kinds of interesting information about the world of beer inside Stiegl's World of Brewing, the largest such exhibition in all of Europe. Here, beer fans are able to experience the art of brewing first-hand, as well as learn fascinating facts relating to this popular cultural beverage.
