High above the Salzach Valley, between Schwarzach and Taxenbach, lies the legendary Pongau resort of Goldegg. Located on an elevation, there is a breathtaking view of the Salzach River Valley from here. The Goldegg Lake, which forms the centre of the village, is ideal for walks and boat rides.
Cultural Stronghold in Pongau
Even the Celts knew about the beauty of this place and built a Romano-Celtic settlement here. Finds from that time can be admired today in the Museum. In the Goldegg Palace there are year round interesting cultural events to be experienced and also the Pongau local history museum is at home in the Goldegg Palace. Every year in September, the Thomas Bernhard Festival and the Goldegger Dialogues take place here. Culture anyway has a high priority in Goldegg. because also the Schellhorn family, with their Seehof directly on the Goldegg Lake, value the cultural events at the highest level.
