Salzburg’s Idyllic Alpine Huts

Experience the perfect winter's break

A hut holiday is romantic, tranquil and a little closer to the pulse of nature. Wake up to the first rays of sunshine, step out into the untracked snowy landscape, look down into the awakening valley and inside the hut a warm fire is already crackling in the wood-burning stove. If you like your mountain experience to be authentic, book one of the many self-catering huts in SalzburgerLand. But if you don't want to miss out on the usual comforts, you will find the amenities of a hotel holiday in Salzburg's alpine villages in ideal combination with the cosiness and original charm of a mountain hut.

Winter holiday in a self-catering hut

If there were a rooster, he would hear his first cockcrow now. It’s just before dawn and the horizon is already turning shades of purple to orange. We slip out of the thick down duvets, make a cup of coffee and dress warmly, because a spectacular sunrise awaits us outside the hut door. Last night’s snowfall has laid an immaculate white blanket over our tracks outside the door, but no more flakes are falling now. It’s turning into a glorious, cloudless day and as the sun slowly moves over the horizon, we imagine all the things we could do – a snowshoe hike to the summit, a toboggan ride down into the valley, building a snowman or just sitting on the hut bench, reading and letting the sun shine on our noses. Clocks are ticking a little differently up here and the daily routine is tranquil. Or maybe we just make ourselves a good breakfast with the regional products we bought in the valley and then curl up under the thick down duvet again…

A hut holiday in harmony with nature is relaxing and decelerating. If you like, you can seek solitude in a self-catering hut, perhaps without Wi-Fi and TV. Instead, you get a self-determined daily routine, silence, nature and lots of views. If you prefer to be in company and don’t want to do without comfort and a little luxury, book yourself into one of the hut villages.
