It was here that the interior villa scenes were shot, and its neighboring lake was the location for the scene in which the children fall out of the boat. There was a small mishap whilst filming this scene. Kym Karath, the actress who played Gretl, couldn\u2019t swim and jumped into the water from the wrong side of the boat. She had to be rescued by the assistant director\u2019s son. Castle Frohnburg on the Hellbrunner Allee was chosen for the exterior shots of the villa.<\/p>\n<p><span>The famous gazebo, which today can be found in the gardens of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellbrunn.at\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hellbrunn<\/a> Castle, was used for both Maria and Georg\u2019s romantic love scene and the duet \u201cSixteen Going On Seventeen\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_99590\" style=\"width: 1180px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99590\" class=\"size-1170_658 wp-image-99590\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.salzburgerland.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/gazebo_som_tsg-1170x658.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 Tourismus Salzburg GmbH - Sound of Music Gazebo in Hellbrunn\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-99590\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Tourismus Salzburg GmbH \u2013 Sound of Music Gazebo in Hellbrunn<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Locations in Salzburg Old Town<\/h2>\n<p><span>The <\/span><b>Benedictine monastery<\/b><span>, where Maria started out as a novice, is where the nuns sang \u201cMaria\u201d. The song \u201cI Have Confidence\u201d was filmed in the <\/span><b>Residenzplatz. <\/b><span>\u00a0The <\/span><b>Felsenreitschule<\/b><span> forms the location for the singing competition in which the family choir participate, and is also where the escape plans were made. It is here that Christopher Plummer, alias Baron von Trapp, sang \u201cEdelwei\u00df\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>The Sound of Music Locations in Salzburger Land<\/h2>\n<p><span>The wedding scene, which incidentally was one of the first scenes to be shot for the film, was filmed in the parish <a href=\"https:\/\/mondsee.salzkammergut.at\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">church of Mondsee<\/a><\/span><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The town of Werfen provided the backdrop for the song \u201cDo-Re-Mi\u201d <\/span><span>and Hohenwerfen Fortress can be seen in the background. The <strong>Untersberg<\/strong> mountain can be seen twice throughout the film. The film was sold out for weeks, and during this time the city of Salzburg became famous all over the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Further locations<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>St. Peter\u2019s Cemetery<\/li>\n<li><span>Studios in Salzburg Parsch.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Caf\u00e9 Winkler, known today as the M32 restaurant on the M\u00f6nchsberg<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>St. Margarethen Chapel<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Fuschl, St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Fun Facts<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Hotel Bristol on the Makartplatz was the hotel where Christopher Plummer stayed. He spent many a night there playing the piano at the hotel bar.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Salzburg was a dream come true for the child actors. Their <\/span><span>governess showed them the sights of the city and they had great fun at the Hellbrunn Trick Fountains.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The song \u201cDo-Re-Mi\u201d was filmed in the Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg. Julie Andrews found that she wasn\u2019t able to play the guitar and sing at the same time. After a vehement dispute with the director, Andrews discovered a proven home remedy. After a stiff glass of brandy, she found that shooting the scene was no problem! <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Whilst filming, the children grew \u2013 some faster than the others.
