The variety of culinary addresses contributes for the most part to life satisfaction. And for many people, there are delectable fixed points in the weekly schedule, such as the traditional \u201cSchranne\u201d market. Then, always on Thursdays before 5 am, brisk activity prevails in the area around St. Andrew\u2019s Church (\u00c4ndr\u00e4kirche), because farmers and producers, bakers, butchers and vintners from the city and province of Salzburg as well as the surrounding regions gather around St. Andrew\u2019s Church \u2013 not far from the square known as Mirabellplatz \u2013 and offer their products for sale. Then there\u2019s fresh fruit and vegetables, fragrant bread and whey butter to go with it. Wonderful meat, fine bacon and cheese are available in all variations. The selection is considerable, and on Thursday between 5 am and 1 pm the wicker basket is packed and filled more and more from stand to stand. As great as the variety at the various stands may also be, the delicacies have one thing in common: they are lovingly prepared. And you can taste that. Then with a full shopping basket you also gladly go for a coffee at the traditional Caf\u00e9 Fingerlos.<\/p>\n

Anyone who walks back to the Old Town through Mirabell Gardens will immediately pass the next culinary address: the Salzachgrill at Hotel Sacher. Of course, the hotel is world famous. Superb schnitzels as well as burgers and fine desserts are served in the associated restaurant, which is located directly on the city\u2019s lifeline \u2013 the Salzach River.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, the walk through the city leads past many temptations. In particular, the Getreidegasse lane is full of sweet highlights. These highlights start with Carpe Diem, where fine desserts are also served with delicious coffee. A scoop of ice cream at the Eisgrotte ice cream parlour is a must in the summer. And the sweet journey is perfect once you\u2019ve finished a slice of chestnut cake in the city\u2019s smallest coffeehouse. The Mozartkugel chocolate balls served by the Konditorei F\u00fcrst confectionery come along at just the right moment as a souvenir for the loved ones at home. In addition to the sweet delicacies, a stop for an obligatory Bosna sausage at the Balkan Grill should also be on the agenda during a walk through the city. The selection as well as the outstanding quality has remained unchanged for years at the tiny Bosna stand. Anyone who pays a visit to Getreidegasse in the winter months cannot avoid stopping at Getreidegasse 39, because the tradition-steeped Sporer wine & spirits shop has long since become a popular meeting place. Visitors can enjoy the winter with delicious punch and a chat. Once the Advent season has arrived, the scents and sounds of the Christmas Market lure visitors to Domplatz (Cathedral Square). The innumerable market huts featuring handcraft items and treats will not only light up the eyes of children.
