This is a very matter-of-fact definition for something that exudes so much energy and power. The sound of the water tearing down the rapids is deafeningly loud, it then comes crashing down into the plunging depths, rests for a moment before slowly making its move again. The air fills with fine spray and shortly and permeates your skin and hair, and your clothes cling to you. It\u2019s a really unforgettable experience visiting any of these natural wonders in SalzburgerLand. Some of the most impressing gorges are the following seven\u00a0ones.<\/p>\n<h3>Sigmund-Thun Gorge, Kaprun<\/h3>\n<p>The Kapruner Ache stream cuts its way along 320 metres down through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.klamm-kaprun.at\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sigmund Thun Gorge<\/a> at depths of up to 32 metres. The distinctive smoothing, potholes and basins in the Gorge are well worth a visit for the whole family.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Our tip<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>From July until beginning of September 2023 a very special, mystical and stunning night-time spectacle brings the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.klamm-kaprun.at\/en\/\">Sigmund Thun Gorge<\/a> to live.<strong><br>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The guided hiking tour through the gorge on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.klamm-kaprun.at\/en\/news-events\/mystical-night-of-water\/\">Mystical Night of Water<\/a> is suitable for Parents and children. Together you can listen to the roaring of the water in the canyon, admire the strangely illuminated rocks and hike along the 340-m long wooden construction through the night.<\/li>\n<li>Events are not included in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salzburgerland.com\/en\/salzburgerland-card\/\">SalzburgerLand Card<\/a>!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe title=\"Mystical Night of Water in the Sigmund-Thun Klamm Kaprun\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/Nwo_hOjEGQQ?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;modestbranding=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Seisenberg Gorge, Weissbach near Lofer<\/h3>\n<p>The entrance to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seisenbergklamm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seisenberg gorge<\/a> is located in the town of Weissbach bei Lofer in the Saalachtal region of <span class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-place\" id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-xebg1f8wotnl41rpg1d0nilod30xpcyb\" itemid=\"http:\/\/open.salzburgerland.com\/en\/entity\/salzburgerland\">SalzburgerLand<\/span>, and the gorge has been open to visitors since 1831. The gorge is safe for children aged three years and over to explore, just as long as they are accompanied by an adult.<br>\n<strong>Tip:<\/strong> You can choose whether to walk through the gorge and return the same way, or hike along a number of different paths which loop back to the car park.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_61396\" style=\"width: 1180px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61396\" class=\"wp-image-61396 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.salzburgerland.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sltg-wasserreiches-salzburgerland-seisenbergklamm-e1473944470845.jpg\" width=\"1170\" height=\"781\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.salzburgerland.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sltg-wasserreiches-salzburgerland-seisenbergklamm-e1473944470845.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/www.salzburgerland.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/sltg-wasserreiches-salzburgerland-seisenbergklamm-e1473944470845-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1170px) 100vw, 1170px\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-61396\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 SalzburgerLand Tourismus \u2013 Seisenberg Gorge in the Saalachtal region<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Vorderkaser Gorge, Saalachtal<\/h3>\n<p>Take the path down through Vorderkaser\u00a0gorge, along 51 boardwalks, 35 stairways and 373 steps. The thunderous water has been powering its way through the rock for thousands of years, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naturgewalten.at\/english\/vorderkaser-gorge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Voderkaser\u00a0gorge<\/a> still grows today at an average rate of \u00a05-6mm per year. Visitors to the gorge from May to August will be rewarded by the sight of scores of native orchids growing along the orchid path.<br>\n<strong>Tip:<\/strong> After negotiating the gorge, you can have a wonderfully refreshing bathe in the Vorderkaser Swimming Lakes.<\/p>\n<h3>Strub Gorge<\/h3>\n<p>Hidden between the Strubklammsee Lake and the Wiestal-Stausee Lake, and protected from prying eyes, lies the impressive Strub Gorge. This canyon-like valley, caused by erosion, runs for several kilometres where the Almbach stream forces its way through the rugged cliffs and creates a unique natural spectacle. The road leads along the northern section of this bizarre valley canyon made of Dolomite rocks. On the southern side, where the formation of the landscape has developed somewhat gentler, runs the Metzgersteig (Butcher\u2019s Stairs) which have been used since ancient times. This was always an important connection between Adnet and Faistenau and is often gladly used even today by guests and locals. But be careful \u2013 those who want to experience the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salzkammergut.at\/en\/austria\/poi\/401537\/strubklamm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strub Gorge<\/a> up-close can embark on a guided canyoning tour, as there is no hiking trail through the gorge.<\/p>\n<h3>Salzach\u00f6fen, Golling<\/h3>\n<p>The wild, untamed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golling.info\/en\/experience-excursion\/the-power-of-elements-salzachoefen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Salzach\u00f6fen Gorge<\/a> is just a few paces away from Pass Lueg outside <span class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-place\" id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-j2cpgg88w3p0nwwlqivizoihcfau1gt6\" itemid=\"http:\/\/open.salzburgerland.com\/en\/entity\/golling\">Golling<\/span>. The imposing chasm in the Dachstein limestone dates from the end of the last ice age and is 80 metres deep. It moreover cuts through the Tennen and Hagen mountains. Numerous giant potholes, where powerful currents of water have eroded the stone, can be found on the rock walls. In the commanding section of the gorge known as \u201cThe Cathedral\u201d, the tops of the high rock faces almost seem to close in on each other.<br>\n<strong>Tip:<\/strong> Take a trip to the Power of Elements adventure valley, where you can have family fun and adventures, all in the setting of captivating natural beauty.<\/p>\n<h3>Lammer Gorge, Scheffau<\/h3>\n<p>The ravine cut by the Lammer river is a breath-taking natural spectacle of light, thundering waters and shade. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennengau.com\/en\/region-tennengau\/sightseeing\/top-excursions-in-tennengau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lammer Gorge<\/a> in Scheffau has been accessible to visitors since 1884. Secured walkways along the rock walls guarantee a safe experience for the whole family.<br>\n<strong>Tip:<\/strong><span> <\/span>A particularly remarkable must-see is the \u201cDark Gorge\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Liechtenstein Gorge, St. Johann in Pongau<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.josalzburg.com\/en\/summer\/liechtenstein-gorge\/history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Liechtenstein Gorge<\/a> isn\u2019t just one of the most beautiful, it is also one of the deepest and longest gorges in the Alpine arena. Over thousands of years the thunderous waterfalls have cut their way deeper and deeper into the mountains. The rock walls appear so high and close together, that the sky is barely recognizable as a narrow strip of light above. About 10 million people from around the globe have been drawn to the legendary Liechtensteinklamm gorge over the years.<\/p>\n<h3>Kitzlochklamm Gorge, Taxenbach<\/h3>\n<p>Over thousands of years, the combination of melting ice of the Ice Age, rainwater, sediment and rocks carried by the Rauriser Ache river have forged out a haphazard pathway through the rocks. Watching tumbling water masses coming down from great heights, has a moving and meditative effect. You\u2019ll often catch yourself staring into the distance, just listening to the falling water and being at one with yourself. SalzburgerLand is blessed with the most beautiful and imposing waterfalls in the Alps, and every single one of them is well worth the visit.<\/p>\n<h3>Golling Waterfalls<\/h3>\n<p>About three kilometres away from the town centre of <span class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-place\" id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-q7tpnq7s5tf7qopxrfc69pk064sfwdcv\" itemid=\"http:\/\/open.salzburgerland.com\/en\/entity\/golling\">Golling<\/span> you will come across one of the most romantic natural attractions in SalzburgerLand. The roaring <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golling.info\/en\/experience-excursion\/golling-falls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Golling <span class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-z4oomszv2qh0c1c5yqcmbezakhf9uyea\" itemid=\"http:\/\/open.salzburgerland.com\/en\/entity\/waterfall\">Waterfalls<\/span><\/a> have long been a favorite motif for many well-known painters and are also a particularly popular day trip destination for visitors to the Tennengau region. You\u2019ll reach the Golling <span class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-lao544obog3etmksk06barfstmrc6rai\" itemid=\"http:\/\/open.salzburgerland.com\/en\/entity\/waterfall\">Waterfalls<\/span> in around 20 minutes from the free car park.<br>\n<strong>Tip:<\/strong> The stepped paths to the waterfalls are accessible from the beginning of May until the end of October.<\/p>\n<h3>Krimml Waterfalls, Krimml<\/h3>\n<p>As the highest waterfalls in Central Europe, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.krimmler-wasserfaelle.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Krimml Waterfalls<\/a> were awarded the Council of Europe\u2019s Diploma for Nature Conservation in 1967, then Austria\u2019s only natural monument. The waterfall has some kind of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salzburgerland.com\/en\/asthma-treatment\/\">healing power<\/a> and exists of three stages. The first stage \u2013 the Upper Falls \u2013 drops some 140 metres. Then comes a short flat segment, known as the \u201cSch\u00f6nangerl\u201d, from which the second \u201cMiddle Achenfall\u201d stage plunges down a further 100 metres. Due to its proximity to the City of Salzburg, it is also a popular tourist destination for both young and old. Within a radius of just 2 kilometres, there are three extraordinary natural monuments in the Pinzgauer Saalach Valley.
