After a four-year hiatus, golf fans in Austria were once again treated to a major live event. The Austrian Alpine Open presented by SalzburgerLand brought some of the sport\u2019s biggest stars to Salzburg. As part of the DP World Tour\u2014Europe\u2019s premier golf circuit\u2014the tournament was one of approximately 40 events held around the world each year, with stops in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Asia, and South Africa. Alongside the four Majors and the five prestigious Rolex Series tournaments, the DP World Tour calendar offers a global showcase of elite golf. Live broadcasts of the Austrian Alpine Open delivered stunning images of Austria to viewers across the globe.<\/p>\n

Gut Altentann Golf Club<\/a> Near Salzburg: Historic Jack Nicklaus-Designed Course Hosted Iconic Tournament<\/h4>\n

After a four-year break, golf fans across the country were once again treated to world-class competition. The Austrian Alpine Open presented by SalzburgerLand welcomed some of the sport\u2019s biggest names as part of the DP World Tour\u2014Europe\u2019s premier golf circuit. The tournament joined a prestigious lineup of around 40 global events, including stops in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Asia, and South Africa, alongside the four Majors and five Rolex Series tournaments. Broadcasts of the event brought the beauty of Austria and the excitement of elite golf to viewers around the world.<\/p>\n

Celebrating Golf Heritage at Gut Altentann<\/h4>\n

The return of the Austrian Alpine Open to Gut Altentann Golf Club marked a special milestone: it had been 25 years since Austria\u2019s first DP World Tour event was held at this historic course near Salzburg. Back in October 1990, the inaugural Austrian Open saw German golf legend Bernhard Langer defeat American Lanny Wadkins in a dramatic playoff.<\/p>\n

Gut Altentann holds a unique place in European golf history as the first course on mainland Europe designed by Jack Nicklaus, who also competed in the 1990 tournament, finishing 12th. Over the years, the course has hosted the Austrian Open three times and has been the stage for numerous national and international amateur championships, firmly establishing its significance in Austrian golf.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the 2025 event, the course underwent a thoughtful redesign based on Nicklaus\u2019s original plans, ensuring it continues to meet the standards of world-class competition.<\/p>\n

The Austrian Alpine Open was organised by Golf Enterprises GmbH, a Salzburg-based company led by CEO Edwin Weindorfer. No stranger to major golf events, Weindorfer played a key role in bringing the DP World Tour to Austria nearly 20 years ago at Fontana Golf Club, where Austrian Markus Brier made history in 2006 as the first local player to win a DP World Tour event. Weindorfer has also been involved in numerous DP World Tour tournaments at Diamond Country Club and more recently organised two DP World Tour events and a Ladies European Tour tournament in Mallorca. Sensational starting lineup at the Austrian Alpine Open<\/h4>\n

Luke Donald (ENG), captain of the European Ryder Cup team, was among the star competitors at Altentann near Salzburg from May 29 to June 1. The former world number one\u2014who held the top ranking for 56 weeks\u2014led Team Europe to a historic Ryder Cup victory in Rome in 2023. The 50-year-old Englishman\u2019s participation underscored the significance of the DP World Tour event in Salzburg.<\/p>\n

Top Players<\/h4>\n

Nicolai von Dellingshausen claimed victory at Gut Altentann, securing his second career win in Austria. The top-performing Austrian was Tyrolean golfer Maximilian Steinlechner, who finished tied for 22nd. Austrian professional Matthias Schwab expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament, stating: \u201c<\/strong>The Austrian Alpine Open can easily hold its own on the international stage. It\u2019s my favourite tournament of the entire year. I admit, I\u2019m not completely objective when it comes to this event\u2014but even trying to be, I\u2019d still say it\u2019s a truly great tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bernd Wiesberger: \u201cI was delighted that the Austrian Alpine Open presented by SalzburgerLand once again hosted a DP World Tour event in Austria. It\u2019s always something very special to play at home, and the Gut Altentann golf course provided a fantastic stage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Fans will have to wait until at least 2027 to see Straka at Gut Altentann again, as the Austrian Alpine Open will be held in Kitzb\u00fchel next year.<\/p>\n
