The unique valley head here, with its riparian landscapes and towering peaks, has been a part of\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hohetauern.at\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hohe Tauern National Park<\/a><\/b>, the biggest national park in Central Europe, since 1991. The highest mountain in the valley is the Keeskogel at 2,884 meters. One special natural feature is the Sch\u00f6dersee, the only\u00a0<b><strong>periodic lake\u00a0<\/strong><\/b>in the entire National Park, filling with water only during the snowmelt and periods of especially heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">H\u00fcttschlag also greets you with an extensive range of\u00a0<b><strong>hiking opportunities<\/strong><\/b>, along with the countless mountain huts that make this region so unique: the better part of\u00a0<b><strong>40 huts<\/strong><\/b>\u00a0here in \u201cThe Valley of Mountain Huts\u201d invite hikers and mountain bikers to stop in for a wonderful selection of\u00a0<b><strong>homemade specialties.<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Aside from the Salzburger Almenweg, a number of other long-range hiking trails pass through the area, including the\u00a0<b><strong>Tauern High Trail<\/strong><\/b>, the Gold Miners\u2019 Trail and the Arnoweg. Also attracting walkers are the Elemental Nature Trail in Sch\u00f6dertal as well as the\u00a0<b><strong>Chapel Hiking Path<\/strong><\/b>. The Valley Museum at the valley head is always well worth a visit, as is the adjacent Gasthof Talwirt and the H\u00fcttschlager Bauernladenst\u00fcberl. Anglers will find extraordinary fishing waters, including the Grossarler Ache and the \u00d6tzlsee.<\/p>\n<p>Hiking and\u00a0<b><strong>touring tips<\/strong><\/b>, descriptions of all 40 mountain huts in the valley, as well as an\u00a0<b><strong>interactive hiking map<\/strong><\/b>\u00a0can all be found\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/touren.grossarltal.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/b>\u00a0as well as under\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.grossarltal.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.grossarltal.info<\/a><\/b> direct.\u00a0The accommodation selection in H\u00fcttschlag ranges from a 4-star hotel with all the comforts, to traditional inns and guest houses, along with cozy farmhouses, holiday apartments and private B&amp;Bs.
