It is quite possible that Carl Mauracher passed the song onto him during his \u201crepair travels\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><b>December 1822, F\u00fcgen:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>Emperor Franz I of Austria and Alexander I of Russia are guests at the castle of Count D\u00f6nhoff. The Count asks the Rainer siblings to perform folksongs for the entertainment of his guests. Among other songs, they perform \u201cSilent Night\u201d, impressing the visitor from Russia especially. He invites them to his court in St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n<p><b>Autumn 1824, F\u00fcgen:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>The Rainer siblings begin their first journey abroad to Germany. They found the era of the \u201cTirolean national singers\u201d who significantly contribute to the dissemination of \u201cSilent Night\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><b>November 1825, F\u00fcgen<\/b>: The Rainer siblings (\u201cUr-Rainer\u201d) begin their second concert tour. It leads them from Germany to Sweden and England. As Alexander already passes away in December of 1825, they change their travel itinerary. The \u201cUr-Rainer\u201d group continues to travel through Europe until 1838.<\/p>\n<p><b>1827 \u2013 1832, Steyr:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>Joseph Greis, book printer and seller in Steyr, releases a flyer with the title \u201cFour Beautiful New Christmas Songs\u201d between 1827 and 1832 (exact date unknown): \u201cSilent Night\u201d is also announced on the cover page. This proves that the first print dissemination of the song began in Steyr. Since Greis was a book seller too, people were able to buy the print directly from him as well.<\/p>\n<p><b>December 1831, Hippach\/Leipzig:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>The Strasser siblings from Laimac near Hippach perform \u201cSilent Night\u201d at the Christmas market in Leipzig. The family of farmers from the Zillertal valley spends the winter months travelling Europe as goods dealers to sell local hand-made products on the markets, especially gloves. It quickly became apparent that singing folk songs was good for sales.<\/p>\n<p><b>1832 \u2013 1834, Leipzig:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>The Strasser siblings are invited to Leipzig for additional performances. This leads to \u201cSilent Night\u201d being put down in written form once again: Between 1832 and 1834, the publisher A. R. Friese from Dresden released a collection of Tirolean Christmas songs with the title \u201cFour Authentic Tirolean Songs by the Strasser Siblings from the Zillertal Valley.\u201d The result is a \u201cZillertal version\u201d of the song, which could be traced back to the Strasser siblings.<\/p>\n<p><b>1834\/1835, Berlin:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>The Strasser siblings tour Germany, staying in Berlin. The Christmas song impresses Frederick William IV of Prussia, who \u2014 years later \u2014 will request the song\u2019s sheet music in Salzburg.<\/p>\n<p><b>1838, Leipzig:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>Inclusion of \u201cSilent Night\u201d into the melody book of the \u201cCatholic Song and Prayer Book for Public and Private Worship for to be Used Primarily by the Catholic Community of the Kingdom of Saxony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>1839, New York:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>The second generation of Rainer singers \u2014 under the aegis of Ludwig Rainer, son of Maria Rainer \u2014 from the Zillertal valley begin a concert tour to America: They\u2019ve also got \u201cSilent Night\u201d in their repertoire. The first performance of the song allegedly takes place in front of the Trinity Church in New York. Holy Night!\u201c outside of Europe, printed 1840 in New York. The song was found, with lyrics only an without music signs, as number 22 in the \u201eLiederbuch f\u00fcr die Jugend. Nebst einem Anhange von Melodien.\u201c (songbook for the youth \u2013 besides an attachement of melodies), which was published in 1840 by the in \u201eAmerikanischen Tractat Gesellschaft\u201c, located in the Nassau-Street 150.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_544055\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-544055\" class=\"size-1170_658 wp-image-544055\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.salzburgerland.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/stille-nacht-fotos-verlag-edition-tirol-_reiter_martin_stn_usa_1840-1024x855-1-1024x658.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"658\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-544055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Verlag Edition Tirol, In March 2018 Silent Night researcher Martin Reiter found the oldest published version of \u201eSilent Night! Holy Night!\u201c outside of Europe, printed 1840 in New York.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>1842, Boston:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cSilent Night\u201d appears in one of the Rainer Family\u2019s songbooks.<\/p>\n<p><b>May 1843, Zillertal valley:<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>The Rainer Family returns home after their US tour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1844:<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>The theologian and founder of the Diakonie, Johann Hinrich Wichern, managed the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>\u201cRauhe Haus\u201d in Hamburg<\/strong>, a training centre for future social workers and missionaries. He made a significant contribution to the dissemination of the song. In 1844, he published his own songbook entitled \u201cUnsere Lieder\u201d (our songs) which also includes the song \u201cSilent Night\u201c. As one of the largest emigration harbours, Hamburg was the hub of many emigrants who carried the song to America, accompanied by missionaries from the \u201cRauhe Haus\u201d and the song book in their luggage.<\/p>\n<p><b>1851, Zillertal valley:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>Emboldened by the success in the USA, Ludwig Rainer founds the \u201cRainer Gesellschaft\u201d group with up to 15 singers, which will perform for nearly all of Europe\u2019s ruling families. Their travels bring them to England, Scotland, Ireland, to Italy, France, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.<\/p>\n<p><b>1854, authorship clarified by Franz Xaver Gruber:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>In 1854, the Royal Prussian Court Orchestra approaches St. Peter\u2019s Abbey in Salzburg to inquire about Michael Haydn, who was considered the originator of the song at the time. Frederick William IV of Prussia required the sheet music for his court orchestra and thus requested a copy from St. Peter\u2019s Abbey in Salzburg. Coincidentally, one of his Franz Xaver Gruber\u2019s sons is present in the seminary and can thus clarify the song\u2019s authorship. Shortly thereafter, Franz Xaver Gruber creates a document to finally clear up the situation regarding the origin of the Christmas song.<\/p>\n<p><b>1858 Moscow\/St. Petersburg:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>The Rainer singers come to Russia and stay there for ten years. Visits home are only carried out to find new members.<\/p>\n<p><b>1859, New York:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cSilent Night\u201d is released in the form of an English translation as part of a brochure titled \u201cCarols for Christmas Tide\u201d by the episcopal priest John Freeman Young.<\/p>\n<p><b>1866, Salzburg:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>The song is incorporated into an \u201cofficial church book\u201d at home.<\/p>\n<p><b>1868, Achenkirch at the Achen Lake:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>The famous Tirolean<span>\u00a0<\/span><b><\/b>national singer Ludwig Rainer of the Rainer singers returned to Tirol as an affluent man after almost 30 years abroad. In 1870, the construction of his new hotel at the Achen Lake is completed. The success of the Tirolean national singer has had a positive impact on tourism in Tirol.<\/p>\n<p><b>1873, Vienna:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cSilent Night\u201d appears as the \u201cChoral of Salzburg\u201d at a North American school building at the World\u2019s Fair in Vienna.<\/p>\n<p>At the<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>turn of the century<\/b>, \u201cSilent Night\u201d has already been sung on all continents, disseminated by Catholic and Protestant missionaries.<\/p>\n<p><b>24\/12\/1914, Flanders:<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>Fraternisation of soldiers on the Western Front, who sing the song together across the trenches.<\/p>\n<p><b>1941, Washington<\/b>: Franklin D.
