The songs and music of The Sound of Music are especially well-loved in America, Asia and the UK. Songs such as \u201cDo-Re-Mi\u201d, \u201cEdelwei\u00df\u201d and \u201cI am 16 going on 17\u201d are often heard at parties, whether it be the original soundtrack or a sing-a-long.<\/p>\n<h2>The history of the Trapp family<\/h2>\n<p><span>There are many myths surrounding the true <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salzburgerland.com\/en\/sound-of-music-the-true-story\/\">story of the Trapp family<\/a> and the film itself.\u00a0 But the real story is, after the death of his wife, caused by scarlet fever, baron von Trapp employed the young postulant Maria as a governess, specifically for the second oldest daughter, among his seven children. Shortly after her arrival, a special bond developed between her and the children, supported by their love of music. Maria and the baron embarked on a romantic relationship and later married. <\/span><span>In 1935, the bank where the family Trapp had deposited their money went bankrupt and their entire fortune was lost. The family went on to <\/span><span>earn their income as a choir, but at the beginning of World War II they escaped Nazi occupied Austria.<\/span><span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>A fairytale in the middle of the war<\/h2>\n<p><span>Various factors contributed to the success of The Sound of Music. The story of the Trapp family is not only a truly moving, but also romantic, which provided some happiness in a world raging with war. In addition, the scenes were shot in the magnificent Salzburg mountains and the city of Mozart. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Filming locations in and around the city of Salzburg<\/h2>\n<p><span>Almost all of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salzburgerland.com\/en\/the-film-locations\/\">the original filming locations<\/a> are still accessible today. On the various tours and excursions, you can follow in the footsteps of the Trapp family: For example, take a walk from the <\/span><b>Mirabellgarten<\/b> through the old town, past the <b>Residenzplatz <\/b><span>and the <\/span><b>Friedhof St. Peter,<\/b><span> up to the <\/span><b>Benedictine monastery on the Nonnberg<\/b><span>. Excursions are possible to <\/span><b>Hellbrunn, <\/b><span>where the famous pavilion is located, the <\/span><b>Wasserschloss in Anif<\/b> and the old historic town of <b>Werfen<\/b>. The impressive \u2018Untersberg\u2019 mountain is used in both, the opening and closing scenes of the film.
