Long bathing periods and spa stays of over six weeks were already popular in the Middle Ages. The ,Gastein Heilstollen\u2018 with its radon therapy is known as a natural accompaniment for rheumatism and other illnesses.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Healing thermal water<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Gastein Valley is characterised by its natural abundance of water. Around 5 million litres of warm thermal water emerge from the springs every day and supply numerous spa and therapy centres as well as the Gastein thermal baths. Enriched with the valuable noble gas radon, the water has a healing effect on illnesses and relieves tension. The water falls about 340 metres downwards over three levels.
