With its old houses, a monument to \u201cKaiser Franz\u201d and Schloss Lichtenau, Stuhlfelden is an absolute jewel of the Upper Pinzgau. Located on Europe\u2019s highest \u201cGrass Mountain\u201d, the Gaisstein elev. 2363 m, Stuhlfelden is a perfect base for hikers. Atop the Gaisstein, you have magical views stretching out across the entire Hohe Tauern National Park.<\/p>\n

Europe\u2019s First Archery Village<\/h2>\n

In Europe\u2019s first \u201cArchery Village\u201d, bow-and-arrow fans discover a true Eldorado. Three different 3D courses, a FITA-certified facility and an indoor range are available year-round for the enjoyment of experienced archers as well as beginners.\u00a0 Coaches are always right there at your side to provide assistance and tips. Rookies can learn the basics at the FITA facility with the help of a trainer, or even take part in an intensive course out on a 3D archery trail. While parents fine-tune their Robin Hood skills, we are happy to look after their kids. Around a campfire in the Indian Village, children are guaranteed to have all kinds of fun! In 2010, Stuhlfelden was the venue for the European Bowhunter Championships with over 1500 archers participating.<\/p>\n

Excursion with the Pinzgau Railway<\/h2>\n

For excursions to Zell am See or Krimml Waterfalls, we recommend taking a ride on the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn train. This narrow-gauge railway also transports bikes back to Stuhlfelden, after you have completed an extended tour along the Tauern Bike Path. In winter, Stuhlfelden provides direct access to an extended network of cross-country ski trails through the Upper Pinzgau. In this case, too, whenever you get tired, simple hop aboard the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn for a comfortable ride back to your starting point.<\/p>\n

A Culinary Tip<\/h2>\n

At the traditional Schwaigerlehen <\/a>in the center of Stuhlfelden, Tobias Bacher works his culinary magic in his so-called \u201csmoke kitchen\u201d. This farm can be traced in written records dating back to 1496, and owned by four generations of the current family. The \u201csmoke kitchen\u201d is the heart of this venerable ancient building. Over an open wood fire, Tobias Bacher cooks just like they did in the olden days. By advance order, in his pans he conjures up multi-course menus with local ingredients.<\/p>\n
