Prince Archbishop Paris Lodron had the Ballhaus constructed in 1775 - for "the purpose of ball games, which are popular with everyone" - on the site now occupied by today's Salzburg State Theater.

After a storied history, it now exists as an ensemble theater under its current intendant, Hans Peter Dolder - offering all theatrical genres, it continues to experience great success. Nowadays, life itself is played out here!
