The Weißbach Nature Park is a small town in the heart of SalzburgerLand, in the Saalachtal Region. This mountain climbers village is surrounded by the Steinernen Meer and the Leogang and Loferer Steinbergen Mountains.

Weißbach near Lofer has 400 inhabitants and is the smallest community in the Pinzgau region. It lies at 666 m above sea level and is the mountaineering village in the Saalachtal valley in Salzburg. In this pretty village, surrounded by the foothills of the Steinernes Meer and the Leoganger and Loferer Steinberge, you will find all the amenities you would expect from a good ‘base camp’. Cosy and familiar accommodation, inviting inns and genuinely warm people. In winter the many ski touring routes attract sporty ski mountaineers to Weißbach. In the summer months climbers and mountaineers populate the many climbing routes, celebrate lonely summit victories and feel their way to their limits in the three „via ferrate” fixed rope routes. If you want to gain a deep insight into the flora and fauna of the local alpine pastures and hike through one of the most beautiful nature parks in Austria, you should definitely visit the Weißbach Nature Park Centre and join one of the interesting guided tours.

Holidays on the mountains and alpine pastures

Extraordinary plants sprout on the traditionally managed alpine pastures and the diverse mountain meadows, the Apollo butterflies, which are highly endangered in Europe, fly over the flower meadows and the game finds sufficient habitat in the dense mixed mountain forests. Mountain bikers and e-mountain bikers are also very welcome guests here, as one of the aims of all Austrian nature parks is to achieve an equally important combination of (nature) conservation, recreation, education and regional development. The fascination and power of the wild water can be experienced again a little further down the valley in the Seisenbergklamm gorge while hiking or canyoning. It has been accessible since 1831 and has lost none of its fascination since then.

Natural jewel Seisenberg Gorge

The entrance to the unique Seisenbergklamm gorge is near the centre of Weißbach. The gorge is 600 metres long, 50 metres deep and has narrow passages of up to 80 centimetres. It was fortified in 1831 by lumberjacks, who transported the felled wood down the valley via the water and, as the saying goes, often heard the ghost of the gorge rumbling. At the exit of the gorge a real paradise for hikers opens up. For extended hikes you can also use the Alm Erlebnis Bus from the centre, which connects the Weißbach Nature Park with the Berchtesgaden National Park. In this way, popular hiking routes on the picturesque Kalbrunnalmen and the Hirschbichl can be easily reached.
