Harvest Festival opens with a farm festival hosted by the Willberger family in Unken. At the beginning of September, you can attend the "Almabtriebsfest" in St. Martin, a homecoming event for cattle returning from summer grazing in the mountains, featuring festively decked-out cattle, carriages, whip-crackers, folk-costume groups and many local artisans. And be sure to put your luck to the test during a game of CowRoulette.
You can look forward to a culinary treat on September 16, when it is time for the 2nd Saalachtal Bladlfest on market street in Lofer:
Sample "Bladl" - essentially farmhouse-style pasties - in all kinds of variations - savory, stuffed with mushrooms, cheese, bacon, .... or sweet, with fruit, cheese etc. Made from a potato dough, rye dough or a secret recipe plucked out of the family cookbook, prepared for you by the farmers' wives of Saalachtal. Along with live musical entertainment, a delightfully relaxing, fun-filled day is guaranteed.
At the celebrations in Weissbach and in Lofer/Scheffsnoth, it's all about conjuring up a warm, convivial atmosphere. Celebrating together, dancing, and enjoying specialties from the region.
