Organic Paradise SalzburgerLand

When organic farming is a matter of course

SalzburgerLand is Europe’s top organic pioneer. Nowhere else is the percentage of organic farmers as high as here, where over 50 per cent of farms have opted for an ecologically sustainable management of land areas over the course of time and out of respect for nature, animals and mankind. And you can also see, smell and taste that!

Organic Paradise SalzburgerLand came into being in 2009 due to this special feature. There are currently 32 hotels, restaurants, gastronomy and farm establishments which guarantee their guests ecologically correct holiday pleasure at the highest level of quality. The Organic Paradise is geographically located in the most beautiful holiday regions in SalzburgerLand, including the Salzkammergut region in SalzburgerLand, Salzburg Lake District, the Lammertal Valley in the Tennengau region, the Salzburger Sportwelt region, St. Margarethen in the Lungau region and the Salzburg Saalachtal Valley. This year you can also find organic pioneers in the city of Salzburg.

An organic certification as basic requirement

All culinary establishments in the Organic Paradise SalzburgerLand are members of Bio-Austria and thus conform to the carefully selected criteria and strict controls of the national Organic Quality Controls which are performed every year in each partner.

These Butterflies show the way:

The Blue Butterfly for the “Salzburger Organic Breakfast”: The organic offering in these establishments consists of the “Salzburger Organic Breakfast”. It is made of primarily organic delicacies from local farmers and producers.

The Green Butterfly for “All-day culinary dining”: Guests have the opportunity to be pampered all-day with organic treats in these establishments.

The Orange Butterfly for “100% organic produce“: These Organic Paradise establishments serve exclusively organic delicacies on their tables, ideally in season and locally produced.

From designer timber hotel to Erbhof

The range of offers is also rich and diverse. Anyone who thinks of ORGANIC in connection with Birkenstock sandals, jute and other products in the old sense is vastly mistaken. For example, today ORGANIC in the BioParadies features a 100-year old “Erbhof” (ancestral farmstead) with its own chapel, a designer timber hotel with luxurious SPA at 1,500 metres above sea level, mountain hut “chalets” with own herb garden and natural swimming pond as well as city and seminar hotels. Modern design meets centuries-old tradition – with one goal: to holistically and very naturally pamper the guest.

Completely natural culinary pleasure

Arrive and savour everything in the BioParadies. In particular, the culinary offer leaves nothing to be desired. Among the certified BioParadies establishments, the day starts with the “Salzburg organic breakfast”: 100 per cent of all ingredients here stem from organic farming, either from one’s own garden or from farmers in the region. Depending on type and size, the establishments also offer very different special features, such as an organic-certified “snack garden” at Landhotel Rupertus**** in Leogang, finest hay-milk cheese varieties from the “Bio-Heu-Region” (organic hay region), an organic gourmet menu at the “Kulturwirtshaus Urbankeller” organic restaurant in the city of Salzburg or cheese from the on-site cheese dairy at the Sinnlehenalm alpine pasture.

Watch the activities on an organic shown farm

Be an organic farmer someday. Go into the barn early in the morning, take care of the animals, and then tend to the fields and the work on the farm:  29 unique organic establishments, among them also mountain pasture farms, allow people to experience on-site what constitutes organic farming, and which values and advantages – but also additional effort and expense – this entails. Organic farmers impart their experience and their knowledge in a very individual manner, always tailored to their own farm and operation. Guaranteed authentic and unadulterated!

Offers for children and families

Special offers are available for young people and families at 13 establishments. Regardless of whether it is making cheese or baking bread, going on a herbal hike, experiences with animals, building giant towers with woodblocks, enjoying a thematic saga hike or torchlight hike, milking sheep, making wool, a special mountain pasture adventure, making ointments or soaps yourself, printing fabrics, making cosmetics from whey, getting to know the forest better or being inspired in the “rose café”, the opportunities are as diverse as organic farming and nature itself!
