Calling all active types, hedonists and adrenaline junkies

You’ve come to the right place if you’re a thrill seeker, or craving a taste of heady adventure

Harder, quicker, faster. Adrenaline junkies and adventure sports enthusiasts live by this motto, and can’t seem to get enough of thrill-seeking, adrenaline-pumping challenges, especially when on holiday. They have definitely found their perfect match when they come to SalzburgerLand. For here, regardless of whether in the water, the air, the mountains or deep down in the valley, plenty of sporting encounters, excitement and adventures galore can literally be found around each corner here. On the other hand, if you love get out and about in the great outdoors but without pushing yourself to those exhilarating (petrifying) limits, there’s still just as much fun to be had with the ‘gentler’ physical activities. The important thing is to just get out and do it!

In lofty heights

It stands to reason that the element of air plays such a big role in this region dominated by its majestic mountain peaks, which count as amongst the highest in Austria.  Regardless of whether you want to conquer your fear of heights in one of the many climbing trails of the region, shoot down the mountain on a bike trail, roll down the side of a mountain at 30km/hr in a huge soft air-filled ball zorbing, or push yourself to your absolute limits trail running, in SalzburgerLand you will find no end of possibilities in and around the mountains.

Take a sky dive and learn what it means to race to the earth at terrifying speeds, but float peacefully to the ground all the while taking in the fantastic panoramic sights as you softly land with your parachute. The memories and physical sensations will stay with you your entire life long. Beginners can learn the art of paragliding, skydiving, tandem jumping, gliding and hang-gliding at a number of schools in the region, making it a viable and safe experience for all.

If you quite don’t fancy the same adrenaline rush, why not hover over Salzburg in a balloon. You’ll still feel the fresh Alpine air caressing your face and enjoy the region’s many sights from dizzy heights. Mankind’s greatest dream since the beginning of time has surely been to be able to fly, so if you’re a burgeoning pilot you can also learn where to fly or book a sightseeing flight with an airplane or helicopter at one of the flight schools in Salzburg, Zell am See and Mauterndorf.

The Gaisberg

At a height of 1,287m the Salzburg’s famous Gaisberg mountain offers the opportunity for numerous activities such as mountain biking, hiking and paragliding. Come and experience the pure delight of soaring majestically above the history quarter of Salzburg City.

Cool clear waters

Thanks to its vast and varied water masses, forces of nature and stunning beauty, the waters all over SalzburgerLand offer up no end of opportunities to get active on the water. The pure white water waters in the rivers and streams all over the region lend themselves perfectly to rafting, kayaking, canoeing, canyoning and hydrospeeding. Travel through the wildest currents, past impressive cliffs and take in the natural beauty of this region, but always with an experienced guide if you’re new to the sport (plenty of whom are to be found in SalzburgerLand).

If you’re just looking to cast your sail in calmer waters, look no further than the placid lakes in this region, many of which are blessed with optimal conditions for sailing, wind surfing and kite surfing. Have you ever felt the wind whipping through your hair as you’re towed on the back of a motorboat whilst tubing? Do you know the feeling of leaning full throttle into a bend with a mono-waterski? Have you ever completed a perfect landing after a hair-raising jump whilst wakeboarding? If the answer to all the above is yes, then you’ll know that the glass-clear waters of the lakes doesn’t just provide an excellent place for rest and relaxation, it also offers up that pure fun and adrenaline kick.

Feet on solid ground

After hearing all the above you would be forgiven for thinking that there could hardly be any more fun and action to be found with your feet on solid ground. However, of course that isn’t the case in SalzburgerLand. Just think of all the skating and inline parks, the excitement that can be had playing volleyball, never mind bouldering and climbing halls and walls. Do you know how challenging it can be, balancing on a slackline between two trees? Or, why not simply lace up those trainers and go for a run? SalzburgerLand’s hilly passes, green valleys, trails and well-paved urban areas lend themselves fantastically to pounding the pavements for running and trail running, all whilst breathing in Alpine-fresh air. Nordic walking fans will also find their own paradise, with well-sign posted tracks, excellent conditions and, of course, countless stop-off joints at the way to refuel and rest.

Whatever appeals to you, air, water or solid ground, there will always be something for you in SalzburgerLand!
